The Daphne Pirie AO MBE Spirit of Sport Medal is awarded to an individual, or in some cases, a group who embodies the true spirit of sportsmanship through long-standing service and contribution to sport on the Gold Coast.
More than performance alone, this prestigious honour recognises those who demonstrate integrity, courage, dedication and a deep commitment to their sport and its community.
Selection Criteria
More than performance alone, this prestigious honour recognises those who demonstrate integrity, courage, dedication and a deep commitment to their sport and its community.
Long-term involvement in sport, ideally in a voluntary capacity
A measurable and lasting impact on their sport or the sporting community
Positive influence on others within their sport
Demonstrated selflessness, integrity, commitment and leadership
Representation at State level or higher, and a strong connection to the Gold Coast
How Nominations Work
Nominations are publicly invited each year via advertisement in the Gold Coast Bulletin during November. All submissions are carefully reviewed by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee, who then make recommendations to the Board for final approval.

The medal is named in honour of Daphne Pirie AO MBE, a trailblazer for women in sport and a lifelong advocate for fairness, inclusion and the power of sport to shape lives. Her legacy continues through this award and the values it upholds.
