Date of Birth:

6 July 1958

Place of Birth:

Murwillumbah

Inducted:

30 November 1999

Ossie Moore grew up in Queensland, won the Australian Schoolboys Championship while still at Miami High and then added two Southport club championships before taking up a scholarship to university in the United States.

He became the first Gold Coast golfer to capture the Australian Amateur Championship when he won at Royal Adelaide in 1981, success which earned him automatic entry into the professional ranks.

A Royal Queensland Golf Club Junior Champion, he added the club's senior championship in 1982 before switching from the amateur ranks, following in the footsteps of Greg Norman who also won the junior and senior titles at the club.

Ossie won the National Panasonic Nedlands Masters in 1984 and finished on top of the Order of Merit the following year without winning a tournament.

That he did was measure of consistency in a man described as one of Australia's best strikers of the ball, and that in a year in which top 10 finishes were the norm without translating to a title - a consistency he retained throughout his career.

Smart and articulate, Ossie has a mechanically sound golf swing with all three qualities reflected in his game, his swing described by some as almost copybook, his rhythm and temperament as worth capturing.

They are qualities which would enable him in his role as commentator and course reporter to explain golfing situations clearly to his audience.

There would be two titles in 1986 including the Victorian Open and the first of his two Queensland PGA crowns, this one at Indooroopilly.

Ossie played much of his golf in Europe between 1983 and 1991. Six of those years (1985-90) exempt from qualifying.

The 1989 season saw him capture the Australian Matchplay Championship, and his second Queensland PGA triumph came in 1992 at Gainsborough Greens.

Tall and good-natured, he found success elusive for the next few years, but continued to persevere, showing dedication to the game and a fine sense of sportsmanship.

Ossie became a resident teaching professional at Sanctuary Cove and moved into a broadcast field where his knowledge of the game and the players found expression in television commentary.
